Start your adventure with a tour of a bustling market; there you will see fresh produce, locally grown herbs, spices, exotic fruit and vegetables. Return to the kitchen, you will be preparing dishes such as banana blossom flower salad, chicken with sugar palm and pineapple and ripe banana with coconut milk and sesame. beyond uniques escapes 1Half or full day trip to learn with local people in the countryside the real Cambodian cooking. Each class commences with a visit to a family out of Siem Reap. Along the way you will learn about the herbs and vegetables grown at most Khmer households and used in daily cooking. The visit to a family's home is an opportunity to learn about food preparation in a Khmer home. Who does the shopping and the cooking! Your guide will also let you know about food customs, superstitions and beliefs. A gift of rice is provided to the family as thanks for their participation.
Following this visit you return to the pavilion to commence cooking. Together with your chef and guide you will create several dishes which you can then reproduce at home. Classes include numerous Cambodian dishes and a recipe card will be provided. More than a cooking class, a Khmer lifestyle class. "Khmer food lovers" is a cooking class for individuals and groups. Participants learn how to prepare Khmer dishes in addition to choosing products at a local market. These courses are conducted by chefs who make every effort to ensure that you have a good time. Once you have completed your cooking class of 5 famous Khmer dishes, you will be comfortably seated on the terrace in our garden to enjoy the food we have prepared together. After picking your favorite dish from the menu, join the daily classes to be taught how to prepare this by yourself with the advice of one of our Khmer chefs. The summery specialties like the Amok, a medley of freshwater Mekong shrimps, Tonle Sap fish, coconut, locally produced vegetables, and much more yummy plats. Classes start at 10.00 for 3h, every day. The first hour go to Phsar Chas market to buy veggies, spices and all you need, and then prepare everything before savor your delicious result. There is an amazing array of produce grown in the area, some of them you already know, but your guide will explain the many uses both culinary and medicinal that the produce is used for. Return with your selection of produce for a cooking demonstration. You will explore several classic Cambodian dishes and enjoy tasting the "fruits of your labor" as a traditional seating Khmer style luncheon. The cooking class takes a bit over 3 hours and leaves at 10am from The RiverGarden reception area. Classes are $25 per person or $35 for 1 person only, for a great cooking experience.
