When visiting the Angkor Park and the town of Siem Reap, one is already experiencing Cambodia’s rich history, but it is rare that one gets to be a part of history! Participants in the 1st Angkor City Night Run will get to make history this November 5, 2017 as they will take part in a unique and fun charity run that will take place around the Siem Reap River.

All throughout the race, runners will be treated to a festival of lights, sounds and music.

This is no ordinary run, not only because it will culminate at night but it will place emphasis on the word “fun” and will be party-themed. Meaning, the race will start in the widely appropriate Pub Street to get the mood going and all throughout the race, runners will be treated to a festival of lights, sounds and music. The race distance is 5 kilometers and upon gun-start, participants will immediately experience some energizing rock music and will get to explore Siem Reap by night in streets that are usually unexplored by regular tourists.

While this is classified as a running event, in no way is it only for fitness enthusiasts. In fact, the Night Run is not the ideal place for one to break their personal records but a gathering of locals and foreigners that want to live it up with a unique twist. It is a grand street party that extends to nearly the entire downtown Siem Reap. There will be different party zones with an assortment of music styles throughout the course, selfie-stations, give-away booths and fireworks! At the end of the race, music will be provided by local DJs: DJ MAILY, DJ Nova, DJ Vutha and DJ Yoku (EDM Cambodia).

This momentous event coincides with a major Khmer holiday that celebrates the famous traditional Water Festival or Bon Om Touk. This festival has its roots in ancient Khmer history and commemorates the end of the monsoon season and the coming of harvest period which also coincides with the full moon. Although the heart of the festivities will be held in the nation’s capital, the Angkor City Night Run promises to be an occasion that could rival the merriment of those enjoying in Phnom Penh.

Tourists mostly flock to Pub Street to experience the night life but this event gives people the chance to see the street in a different light and take part in a momentous and charitable event that benefits both one’s individual health and the health of Cambodian children via their race contribution.
