Mozart at Navutu, Masterpieces of Opera

Mozart at Angkor and Navutu Dreams present Mozart at Navutu, Masterpieces of Opera, a taster of an exciting production – The Cambodian Magic Flute.

Mozart at Navutu, Masterpieces of Opera
Mozart at Navutu, Masterpieces of Opera is an intimate preliminary performance at Navutu Dreams Resort.

Mozart’s much loved The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) — a universal tale of love and hope — is a cornerstone of the Western operatic tradition that, back in 1791, can also claim to have been the first hit musical, enjoying an unprecedented run of over a hundred performances in its first year.

Mozart at Angkor

In what will be the first ever performance of a classic opera in Cambodia, the Mozart at Angkor team will present four performances of the opera in 2019, in the most magical setting possible, a 12th century temple in the midst of the World Heritage Site of Angkor Archaeological Park.

Mozart at Angkor will be the first ever performance of a classic opera in Cambodia.

Something as ambitious as this requires a great deal of preparation, which is why the team decided to prosecute the project in stages. Two years ago, auditions to determine the extent of local talents were followed by a series of workshops that brought an orchestra from Singapore together with local Cambodian musicians and singers. Parts of Mozart’s work were re-conceptualized by conductor Aaron Carpene for a Cambodian ensemble, while stage director Stefano Vizioli worked with Amrita Performing Arts group to create the building blocks of a full production.

Mozart at Navutu, an Exclusive Preview

This January 27, Mozart at Angkor in conjunction with Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat is able to give you a taste of things to come by presenting six of the singers who will eventually form the core of an exciting international cast at Angkor in 2019: Martin Ng, Cho Hae Ryong, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, Vo Thuy Ngoc Tuyen, Tran Duy Linh are all professional opera singers experienced in these roles and eager to take part in the full production. On this event, instead of an orchestra, they will be accompanied by the celebrated Bangkok-based pianist John Ferguson.

Navutu Dreams will host this intimate preliminary performance in their garden setting, and the audience will be further treated to house wine and tapas.
