What’s On in August: The Best Siem Reap Events in August 2017

There is a lot of fun to be had in August, lots of eating and drinking, a bit of art and music and some of Cambodia’s best running and cycling events.

But let’s start our August events roundup with announcing a brand new event in town: the Explosive Detection Dog Show, brought to you by Norwegian People’s Aid, an exciting and educational experience for the whole family!

New in Siem Reap – Explosive Detection Dog Show

Siem Reap Explosive Detection Dog Show

Explosive Detection Dog Show is a new event brought to you by Norwegian People’s Aid, a non-profit organisation working on humanitarian disarmament projects globally. They have been using a special breed of dogs to detect landmines and other explosive devices remaining from the war since 1992. Now you have a chance to see up close how it works! These shows are ongoing.

Where: At their venue, near Siem Reap International Airport
When: Monday to Friday, 08:30-9:30am and 4-5pm
Cost: $7 per person, $3 for Cambodian nationals

August 6: Angkor Empire Marathon & Half Marathon

Angkor Empire Marathon 2017The famous Angkor Empire Marathon is back, runners will tackle 3, 10, 21 or 42 kms around Angkor Wat. Runners can collect their race kits at Angkor Apsara Resort on the 4th and 5th. Enjoy a free coconut after the race at Artillery Café (show your race number).

August 9: Nou Sary Art Exhibition Opening

Nou Sary Art Exhibition Opening at Sala Lodges

Sala Lodges will host a grand opening reception for featured artist Nou Sary. Nou Sary nurtures a very intimate relation with Mother Nature, originally from Phnom Penh he now lives in Siem Reap. Nou Sary represents the symbol of Buddhism as a core value in Cambodian society, surrounded by Rice fields, it is the finest expression of Life and Impermanence. Part of the proceeds of the artwork sale will go to the Foundation for Contemporary Art & Humanities. This event is in partnership with Les Celliers d’Asie Siem Reap showcasing Australian wines from Wolf Blass winery.

August 10: An Evening with the Whiffenpoofs

August 13: Cycling for Environment and Children’s Health

Cycling for Environment and Children’s HealthFor the fourth year in a row, you can join a beautiful morning cycle around Angkor Wat with lunch at the end. Get in quickly, registration closes on 31 July. This year has a new route to last year and will be 12 km ride with breaks and games along the way. This event supports AHC.
