Siem Reap November Events Round Up

We gather Siem Reap’s upcoming events into one handy listing at the start of every month, so you can easily see what’s on in town. Subscribe to our Facebook page for the latest event announcements.

Phare Circus, Cambodia’s innovative social enterprise supporting education and performing arts training, has announced its November schedule of performances. Book now for the dynamic and high-octane performances in ‘Eclipse’, ‘Khmer Metal’, ‘Same Same But Different’ and their new show ‘White Gold’. In addition to the year-round, nightly 8pm show, there will be an early show at 5pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from November 2018 through March 2019.

Made in Cambodia Market features free live shows at the performance space amid the colourful craft stalls. Check the schedule here. November performances include traditional dancing and local musicians, on weekend evenings from 6pm. The philosophy behind the Made in Cambodia Market is to help create Khmer jobs; from the villagers producing the handicrafts to the sellers interacting with customers.

Public Holidays

November 9 : Independence Day

Celebrations to mark the anniversary of independence from France in 1953 include parades and fireworks.

November 21 – 23 : Water Festival Ceremony Holiday

Cambodia celebrates the annual change in the courses of the Mekong River and Tonle Sap River, a naturally-occuring phenomenon. Cambodian victory by the Navy under King Jayavarman VII during the Khmer Empire is also commemorated with boat races, fireworks and community festivities.

November 1- 3: HOWL Presents the Poet weekend

Kosal Khiev will take the audience on a journey – from his home in Thailand to becoming a refugee in USA. His experiences of prison and, later, deportation, led Kosal to express his experiences, anger and regret, through poetry and open mic spoken word performances. Kosal shares his story through four FREE events and a workshop in HOWL’s Presents the Poet weekend in Siem Reap.

  • Thursday 1 November, 8-10pm: Cambodian Son, a Poet’s Odyssey: A documentary telling Kosal’s moving story will be screened at The Village Café. More info: Facebook event page

  • Saturday 3 November, 2-4.30pm: Writing Through – Writing Workshop. Email info@writingthrough.org to secure your space on this creative writing and poetry writing workshop. In collaboration with HOWL and Kosal Khiev, the group workshop will also advise on performance techniques for your work. Why not take part in the Word Jam later that same evening at Lub D’s co-working space. Cost: $10.
  • Saturday 3 November, 7-11.30pm: Word Jam & Open Mic With Kosal Khiev. A unique platform to present your work in relaxed open mic fashion in the safe haven of The Hangout. Entertain the friendly audience with your short presentation (maximum 3 mins) of poetry, comedy, rap or play, in any language, and you could win a prize. November 2: Industry Night

November 3: Samadhi Yogashala Masterclass

November 9 – 10: Das Fluff’s ‘Freakasia’ tour

This Berlin/London based post punk electro pop band are on tour in Asia this month to launch their new album, their fourth, entitled ‘Anxiety Dreams’. See them live at two venues over the weekend, before they head to Vietnam for the Quest Festival.

November 13 – 15: Aman Journey to Peace

November 16 – 18: Japanese Film Festival

Enjoy 11 Japanese films, all of which have recently been popular in Japan, and will be subtitled in Khmer and English. Admission is free to the screenings in this three-day, annual event. Titles include ‘Laughing Under the Clouds’, ‘Colour Me True’ and ‘The Crimes That Bind’. See the Festival’s website for a full schedule.

November 17: Hunkaar Rhythm in the City

Something exciting is cooking at Hunkaar Table and Lounge. Join the launch on November 17th, during which Yiannis Neufeld will perform a live guitar session. With your bellies filled, it’s then time to hit the floor and dance the night away at their electro swing dance party with DJ Lady C.

November 17: Michelin Dinner with Thierry Seychelles

Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra welcomes the Michelin starred French Chef Thierry Seychelles for an exclusive dinner. November 17 – 25: Dancing Spine Workshop
