These are the public holidays to look forward to in September:
September 19 – 21: Pchum Ben, one of the most celebrated of the Buddhist religious festivals for Cambodians. Pchum Ben is for honouring ancestors, sometimes referred to as the festival of the hungry ghosts. Officially commencing on the 6th of September this year, there will be many ceremonies at pagodas around the country, for 15 consecutive days. However, only the last 3 days of Pchum Ben are recognized as official public holidays.
September 23 is not a public holiday, but it marks the end of the astronomical summer in Cambodia, with day and night being equal in length. In other words, you will have the opportunity to experience an equinox sunrise over Angkor Wat with the sun rising directly above the top of the central tower! However, don’t forger to purchase an Angkor Pass if you plan to enter the temple complex.
September 24 is Constitution Day, a national holiday established to celebrate the signing of the Cambodian constitution by King Sihanouk.
