Rice cakes cooked in a banana leaf. The “pink” ones are with pork and named “Noum Amsom Tchrou”, the “yellow” ones are with banana and named “Noum Amsom Tchek”. Delicious, but a bit heavy in my opinion!!! 😉

In this post, a weird dish for some people but something that Cambodians love and call “Pong Tea Kon”, the famous “baby duck eggs”. These eggs are fertilized between 15 and 18 days, and then boiled to be consumed with salt, garlic and chili. Vendors roam the streets all day, and those brave enough will just have to yell them to give this tasty egg a try…

Today, pictures of one of my favorite food stalls located at the entrance of the street to Wat Bo pagoda. The round cakes in the first “basket” are “Noum Paw Tchirn”, the long cakes in the foreground are prepared with a whole banana and called “Noum Tchek Tchirn”. The other long ones, named “Noum Tchac Tvy”, are delicious for breakfast with a coffee. But the most popular are “Noum Pong Tir”. Those you can see in the second “basket” and are being fried in the second picture. The price for one of those cakes is 500 riel.

Fried noodles (“Lot tcha” in Khmer) served with a fried duck egg (“Pong tir tchirn”) and a vegetable fritter (“Noum katchay”), for 2500 Riel. These noodles are made from rice and their specific name is due to their short length, fried noodles are normally called “Mee tcha”.

A small selection of some of my favorite fritters. On the left, sweet potatoes or “Noum Domlong Tchrin” in Khmer. On the right, delicious fritters of soybean and potatoes, called “Noum Tcheung Tchrou”. Price is 500 Riels a piece for both of them.

Delicious fried bananas (“Tcheck Ang” in Khmer) that you can buy on the street for 1000 or 1500 Riel, depending on the number of bananas on your “skewer”. The other ones are cakes made of sweet potatoes (“Domlong Ang” or “Noum Domlong Barang” in Khmer), that you will savor for 500 Riel a piece. I looove these cakes, especially when they are hot…
