    Administrative divisions in Cambodia

    Cambodia is divided into 23 provinces or khet (ខេត្ត) and the special administrative unit Phnom Penh.
    De facto Cambodia has 24 provinces.

    Kampong Cham (កំពងចាម)
    Kampong Chhnang (កំពង់ឆ្នាំង)
    Kampong Speu (កំពង់ស្ពឺ)
    Kampong Thom (កំពង់ធំ)
    Kampot (កំពត)
    Kandal (កណ្ដាល)
    Koh Kong (កោះកុង)
    Kratié (ក្រចេះ)
    Mondulkiri (មណ្ឌលគីរី)
    Oddar Meanchey (ឧត្តរមានជ័យ)
    Preah Vihear (ពេះវិហារ)
    Pursat (ពោធ៏សាត់)

    Each of Cambodia’s 23 provinces is divided into districts or srok (ស្រុក). Phnom Penh is divided into districts or khan (ខណ្ឌ).
    Each of the provinces has a capital district.

    The districts are sub-divided into communes or khums (ឃុំ). In Phnom Penh these sub-districts are called sangkat (សង្កត).

    The communes are sub-divided into villages or phums (ភូមិ).

    When it comes to Siem Reap, this province has 12 districts or srok.

    Angkor Thom (អង្គរធំ)
    Banteay Srei (បន្ទយស្រី)
    Chi Kraeng (ជីក្រែង)
    Kralanh (ក្រឡាញ់)
    Puok (ពួក)
    Prasat Bakong (ប្រាសាទបាគង)
    Siem Reap (សៀមរាប)
    Soutr Nikom (សូទ្រនិគម)
    Srei Snam (ស្រីស្នំ)
    Svay Leu (ស្វាយលើ)
    Varin (វ៉ារិន)

    The most famous of these districts is Siem Reap which is sub-divided into 10 communes.

    Svay Dongkum (ស្វាយដងគំ)
    Kook Chak (គោកចក)
    Sala Kamreuk (សាលាកំរើក)
    Nokor Thom (នគរធំ)
    Chreaw (ជ្រាវ)

    Sambur (សំបូរ)
    Siem Reab (សៀមរាប)
    Srongae (ស្រង៉ែ)

    Additionally to these sub-divisions there are also cities and towns, called municipalities or krongs (ក្រុង). These take over some responsibilities of the districts and communes on the area they cover. All these municipalities have an elected board and mayor.
